Weather Newport

Update on very wet and windy weather….

East Devils Lake Road and Hill Road junction near Lincoln City Outlet mall area and South Drift Creek Road at milepost 1.5 to 1.8 east of Cutler City area will remain closed until water subsides.  Heavy rainfall is expected to continue into Friday night. Residents in the north end of the county are advised to monitor any small streams or creeks on or near their property and plan for keeping track of which roads are driveable.

Minor flooding is expected along the Siletz River.  A warning was issued for 11 a.m. Friday through Friday evening for rising water levels which are expected to crest at 16.5 feet Friday afternoon before subsiding during the night.

Drivers are advised to not drive through high water on roadways as erosion could be under the water creating unsafe situations. If the water looks deep, don’t proceed.  You could get stuck for hours if you’re not careful.  Find alternate routes if available.

Leaning trees can be a dead giveaway after sudden changes in landscape  from ground movement or an ongoing trickle of falling mud or debris. You can find the latest updates on emergency alerts in the county on the Lincoln County Emergency Management  and the National Weather Service website.
