Yaquina River Rescue along South Bay Road east of Newport.
7:19pm Report of two people in a small water craft that took on water and/or sank somewhere along South Bay Road. Search and Rescue team is racing to the area which is quite large.
7:33pm Rescuers are having trouble finding the two stranded boaters. Searchers are slowing down their search to ensure they find anything resembling a sunken boat or people in the water.
8:10pm Rescuers finally spotted the two men and they are being removed from the river. They’re both likely to be suffering from hypothermia so they’ll need to get their body temperatures back up to normal. They’re being flown by a medical helicopter to the hospital in Newport to have their body temperatures SLOWLY raised to their normal level.
There was no information about how the two boaters became so thoroughly stranded in such a dangerously dark and cold environment.
