Nov. 6 kick-off followed by in-person and online viewing and bidding through Nov. 14
Celebrating another year of creating public art works that hang throughout Newport’s historic Nye Beach neighborhood district, the Nye Beach Banner Auction returns to the Newport Visual Arts Center this fall for its 13th season, raising important funds for youth-arts educational programming. Banner artists range from young students to seasoned crafters. All have stepped up to the challenge for another year, and strengthened Lincoln County’s sense of community.
An in-person kick-off party for the 13th Annual Banner Auction will be held on Saturday, November 6, 1pm to 5pm at the VAC (777 NW Beach Dr.). Music will be provided by Barbara Turrill. Banners will be on display and available for viewing Nov. 6-14 at the VAC (Wed-Sat, noon-4pm). On Saturday, November 13, from noon-4pm, there will be a family friendly activity at the VAC. All bidding on banners will be online at https:// coastarts/nyebeachbanner/.
During the 2021 Nye Beach Banner Project, 41 adult artists donated their creative talents along with 19 youth artists, six individual artists from Newport’s sister city in Japan, and the Mombetsu High School art club. All banners can be previewed at https://www.32auctions.com/organizations/72651
“I’m amazed by the how the Banner Project continues to grow in scope and reach,” says Veronica Lundell, the project founder and owner of Jovi in Nye Beach. “We continue to support projects such as Art Fridays classes and summer art camps, plus we now have a banner partner in Japan and are part of the Oregon Coast Art Bus Project. Creative outlets for youth are particularly important this year.”
