During today’s Lincoln County Commissioners meeting they were visited by a wildlife scientist who told the Commissioners that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is preparing to re-introduce and expand Sea Otter habitat along the northwest American coast.

Sea Lions and Whales have been running the off-shore show for decades –  but there is a number of Sea Otters still living along the California coast, south of San Francisco, all the way south to around Big Sur.   But there’s not a lot of them.  The county commissioners were told that marine biologists are very interested in growing the sea otter population one step at a time – maybe even restoring one of their watery homelands along the Oregon Coast.

The wildlife service scientist said she and others will be flying to Washington DC to pitch their Sea Otter restoration program to the Fish and Wildlife Service and to the Congress.  Hopefully they’ll get the go-ahead to launch a big comeback for the cute little sea-going critters up and down the west coast.
