CITY OF NEWPORT
CANCELS ANNUAL DECOWEEN TRICK-OR-TREATING
Due to the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Newport has canceled its 2021 Decoween trick-or-treating activity. The city urges everyone to consider fun alternatives that pose a lower risk of spreading the virus that causes COVID-19.
Residents planning to give treats at Halloween should:
- ● Avoid direct contact with trick-or-treaters.
- ● Give out treats outdoors, if possible.
- ● Set up a station with individually bagged treats for kids to take.
- ● Wash hands before handling treats.
- ● Wear a mask
If you plan to trick-or-treat with your children, remember that everyone should be wearing a mask – a relatively simple task on Halloween. And, be respectful of the folks providing treats.
If you may have COVID-19 or you may have been exposed to someone with COVID- 19, you should not participate in in-person Halloween festivities and should not give out candy to trick-or-treaters.
Stay safe, everyone! The City of Newport looks forward to resuming its Decoween event in 2022!
