THE CITY OF NEWPORT IS SEEKING RESIDENTS INTERESTED IN FILLING
A VACANCY ON THE NEWPORT CITY COUNCIL
The Newport City Council is seeking applications from residents interested in filling a vacancy on the Newport City Council. The vacancy was created by the resignation of former City Councilor Aaron Collett, who recently accepted the position of City Engineer for the City of Newport. The selected applicant will fill the remainder of former Councilor Collett’s term which will expire on January 3, 2023.
Applicants must be qualified electors and have resided within the city limits for at least one year immediately prior to appointment.
The application deadline is November 3, 2020, by 3:00 P.M. Applications received after that date and time will not be considered.
The City Councilors will conduct interviews of the applicants at a special City Council meeting on November 8, 2021, at 3:00 P.M. Following the interviews, an appointment to fill the vacancy will be made by the City Council at its regular meeting of November 15, 2021.
Anyone interested in applying to fill this vacancy should apply using the city’s committee application which is found on the city website at www.newportoregon.gov; click on “City;” then on “Committees;” and then on “Application for Committee/Commission.” The completed form can be submitted electronically.
