EFFECTIVE THURSDAY, AUGUST 11, 2021, CERTAIN CITY PROPERTIES ARE FF LIMITS TO PUBLIC USE DUE TO EXTREME FIRE DANGER
The Oregon Department of Forestry has placed our region in the Extreme Fire Danger category. The City of Newport has enacted an ordinance which prohibits the public from access to certain high-risk city properties when the region is placed in the Extreme Fire Danger category. These properties include:
- ● Agate Beach Closure area east of the transfer station
- ● Schooner Creek Drainage
- ● Little Creek Drainage
- ● Big Creek Drainage
- ● Big Creek Reservoir
- ● Forest ParkThis closure means the public is not allowed in these areas unless they have a lease, or entering these areas is their main means of access to their property.
This closure will remain in effect until the Oregon Department of Forestry reduces the fire danger level. A press release announcing the change will be issued at that time.
