Newport Wastewater incident is apparently over…repairs and new equipment enroute

The Newport Public Works Department has announced that they are working to upgrade the city’s wastewater plant effluent that is normally piped 1,000 feet offshore.  Earlier, the city reported an overflow of the wastewater and they announced no swimming or other water related activities, especially in the Don Davis Park area.   Public Works told NewsLinolnCounty.com that they’ve managed to stem the overflow and that the discharge offshore is back to normal levels.

In the meantime, city public works has ordered a wastewater upgrade to their operation that should be in installed within 60 days.  In the meantime, public works says they’re closely watching their wastewater levels so there shouldn’t be any more overflows.
