The Oregon Coastal Quilters Guild (OCQG) is featuring a whale-themed wall quilt, “A Whale of a Day,” as its 2021 raffle quilt. This 40” x 50” art quilt was designed and sewn by guild member Melissa Hollenbeck. Toni Brodie appliqued the whale and Lisa Taylor did the masterful quilting. The whale image was designed by internationally-known quilter McKenna Ryan and was used with her permission.
Tickets are $1 each or 6 tickets for $5; they are available from OCQG guild members and by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org (put “raffle tickets” on the subject line). The winning ticket will be drawn on Saturday, August 7, 3 p.m., in the Newport Recreation Center lobby but ticket holders do not need to be present to win.
OCQG is a non-profit organization founded in 1991. Goals of the group are to promote fellowship among quilters; to promote knowledge and appreciation of quilts and quilt making; and to sponsor and support quilting activities. Although the pandemic has required the cancellation of the 2020 and 2021 quilt shows, members have been able to continue with many of their other activities. Guild members make and donate hundreds of quilts and other handmade articles to various Lincoln County organizations every year as well as making quilts to honor local veterans. The 160-plus members of OCQG live throughout Lincoln, Linn-Benton, and Lane counties and beyond. Additional information about the guild is on their website, www.oregoncoastalquilters.org
