The Yachats Demonstration and Community Garden (YDCG) is thankful to the Siletz Tribal Charitable Contribution Fund for a grant of $4525 to complete replacement of one foot high wooden raised beds with new 2 foot high, 4 foot x 8 foot Durable GreenBeds™ with drip water systems for adaptive gardening in Yachats. The completion of these garden beds open more possibilities to gardeners with adaptive needs and to accommodate the aging population of gardeners from the community and Lincoln County Master Gardener Association™ (LCMGA).
Durable GreenBed™ are designed with eco-friendly recycled composite that will last for 25 years, and are capable of withstanding all weather extremes. The Durable Greenbed™ kits were recently assembled by Yachats community and LCMGA volunteers in the Yachats Demonstration and Community Garden. Due to COVID-19, YDCG will resume Open Houses and Plant Clinics to present community outreach programs on Adaptive Gardening and using raised beds during the 2022 growing season.
YDCG opened in 2009 as a joint endeavor between OSU Extension, LCMGA and Yachats Community Presbyterian Church (YCPC). The garden works with OSU, LCMGA, YCPC, volunteer Master Gardeners and community members to manage and maintain the garden. YDCG contributes each growing season produce to South Lincoln County Resources (food share) and Yachats Food Pantry. YDCG hosts educational hands-on garden seminars/plant clinics/open houses monthly during the growing season. LCMGA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit with an independent board.
