The City of Newport urges Caution and Safety when Igniting Fireworks
This 4th of July weekend we encourage folks to consider forgoing lighting off their own fireworks; instead enjoy our public fireworks display which will be lit over Yaquina Bay at 10 pm on the evening of July 4th. We urge everyone to be extra careful with fireworks. This spring our region has experienced below normal precipitation and higher than normal temperatures. This has left our forests and vegetation much dryer than we usually find this time of year.
Illegal Fireworks such as Fire Crackers, Bottle Rockets, Roman Candles, Aerial Shells & Mortars, Missiles/Rockets are prohibited from use at any time. It is also illegal to use any fireworks on our beaches and in our state and federal forests.
If you decide to use your own legal fireworks we stress the following safety points:
Be Prepared: Always have water handy and soak spent fireworks in water overnight
Be Responsible: Never re-light “dud” fireworks. Wait 20 minutes then soak it in a bucket of water.
Be Safe: Always have an adult present. Keep matches and lighters away from children. Only light fireworks in a safe outdoor location.
Be Aware: Only use legal fireworks.
Please call Newport Fire Department at 541-265-9461 if you have any questions.
