Drought, Wildfires and Short Term Rentals:
Without a doubt, thousands of people will be flocking to the coast to escape the high temperatures inland this weekend, over the 4th of July and thereafter.
We are now under a “drought watch”, fire danger is high and what we don’t need are thousands of people coming into our area, using our resources, setting off fireworks, etc.
We see here in Bayshore how STR’s fill to overflowing with people at any given time, especially holidays. How much water do you suppose they use, running dishwashers, showers for all, jet tubs, hot tubs, laundry, etc.
We see fireworks being set off from homes along the sand dunes, which are likely coming from a STR. We also see burned wood off the beach trails and in the dunes behind the homes. (Not likely from residents, because we hear comments all the time about the fears locals have regarding fires getting started.)
People come here to vacation and to party and use up our resources and put us at risk of a major fire and further deplete our water supply.
We read in the news that restrictions may and likely will be placed on hiking trails, reservoirs, etc., due to these dangers.
Commissioners, please consider restricting STR use during this time of extreme fire danger and limited water resources.
