For Many Americans: Great News! “The Affordable Care Act Lives!”

Today, we got some very good news from the Supreme Court: their latest ruling means that, for now, the Affordable Care Act stands.

For more than a decade – since our initial victory in 2010 – Republicans have been waging a war on the progress we’ve made to expand access to quality, affordable health care.

Our system is far from perfect, and our movement’s working all the time to improve it, but gutting the ACA as Republicans have been trying to do, would be catastrophic. Premiums would soar, patients with pre-existing conditions would lose their coverage, and millions of children and families living in poverty would be denied care.

But our job’s not done. Not by a long shot.

Because we know this pattern. We’ve seen it before. Over and over.

As long as Republicans have a majority in the Senate and the Supreme Court, and as long as some states are controlled by politicians who want to turn back the clock on our progress, we’re going to face challenge after challenge—on this and so many other issues.

That’s why it’s so critical that we not only maintain our democratic majority in 2022, but expand it. With a blue Senate, we can build on the progress we’ve made. But we know that if Mitch McConnell takes back his role as Senate Majority Leader, he’ll do everything in his power to gut this law and the protections it offers to millions of Americans.

I promise you that I’ll never stop fighting, if you promise me the same: no matter what, we’ll stand together to expand health care reforms, and make as much progress as we can to a more just, equitable system.
