On Tuesday, June 8th at 6:00 PM the Central Coast NOW Chapter and the League of Women Voters will host guest speaker, Val Hoyle, Oregon’s Commissioner of Labor and Industry. Commissioner Hoyle will speak on the impact of COVID19 on Oregon jobs and the outlook for Oregon’s economic recovery. The speaking program will last about 45 min followed by a question and answers segment for 30 min.
Val Hoyle serves as Oregon’s 10th Labor Commissioner. Elected in 2018, Commissioner Hoyle is responsible for protecting the civil rights of Oregonians by enforcing anti-discrimination laws as well as ensuring Oregon workers are paid fairly and have safe working conditions. Commissioner Hoyle is also charged with directing the state’s apprenticeship programs, giving workers the opportunity to build new skills and helping Oregon businesses grow by providing a well-trained workforce.
Commissioner Hoyle previously served as Majority Leader in the Oregon House of Representatives, where she successfully led efforts to raise the minimum wage, expand access to reproductive care, and create more living-wage jobs following the Great Recession of 2008. She also served as the Chairwoman of the District Export Council of Oregon, the federal advisory board to help small and medium sized businesses expand international trade.
