When I recently hung a flag of the Earth outside my home, I felt connected to something much larger than myself and my country of origin. That simple act bore a warm feeling of fellowship toward all the world’s inhabitants.
A month later I found my Earth flag vandalized — torn down and thrown to the ground. I was deeply saddened. Who could possibly object to displaying an image of the Earth? Whoever damaged the flag I imagine them to be lonely and angry.
I extend my hand to that person with the hope of building a better understanding between us. How about together we create a kinder and gentler world where differences might be brought forward and discussed rather than despised and disrespected?
I encourage all those who celebrate the diversity, beauty and bounty of the Earth to display prominently her image to both honor and demonstrate allegiance. Inexpensive Earth flags can be found on line for purchase.
