1: Do you use Library Take Out?
Life is better with books, movies, and music from your library! Place holds online or over the phone, and we’ll notify you when they’re available, with an automated call or email. Pick up items as soon as you are able to, preferably on Tuesdays or Thursdays between 10 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Items will be held for a week and a half from when they arrive at the library. If you haven’t picked them up by the end date, they will be released for the next person in line. If you don’t receive an expected notification, please let us know, and we’ll check the contact information on your account!
2: Computer Usage
The Newport Public Library is now open for computer usage by appointment on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Patrons can call up to one week ahead to schedule an appointment, and can have one appointment per week. Appointments can last between 15 and 45 minutes. Library staff will not be able to assist with the computers, but patrons are welcome to bring one person with them to help. Photocopy, scan, fax, and print services are available.
3: Library Browsing
The Newport Public Library is open for browsing by appointment on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2 pm to 6 pm. Anyone entering the Library will be required to wear a mask properly, be asked health questions, and have a temperature scan. Please call up to one week in advance for limited appointments. Walk-ins welcome, with a limit of four browsing patrons total. One session per week. Patrons may enter the library for up to 30 minutes. Browsing access is limited to the upstairs floor, but items from downstairs and the Teen Room can be requested at the circulation desk. Please place items that you handle, but do not want to check out on one of the carts in the browsing area so the items can be quarantined for 24 hours. Patrons ages 12 and up are allowed without a parent or guardian present. Patrons under 12 years of age must remain with a parent or guardian when browsing.
4: It’s (Finally) 2021 Reading Challenge
The It’s (Finally) 2021 Reading Challenge encourages you to switch up your usual reading habits and explore what the Library has to offer. After you’ve read a book, eBook, or Audiobook in each of the first 33 categories, turn in a reading challenge ticket for prizes and a chance to win the Grand Prize Drawing. There are bonus categories that can earn you extra entries in the Grand Prize Drawing too! The It’s (Finally) 2021 Reading Challenge takes place from January 1, 2021-December 31, 2021.
5: Book Bingo
Book Bingo is happening at the library! Anyone ages 18 and under can participate. Just pick up a bingo card during Library Take Out hours and complete the whole board by May 31, 2021 for a prize!
6: STEAM Take Away Kits
The Newport Public Library is offering STEAM inspired takeaway activities to pick up during Library Take Out hours: 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays! This month they will be having a Teddy Bear Picnic, while supplies last. These kits are best for ages 11 and under.
7: Teen Take Away Kits
The Newport Public Library is offering take away kits for teens ages 12-18! This month they will be doing Stars in a Jar, while supplies last.Kits can be picked up during Library Take Out hours: 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
8: Adult Take Away Kits
The Newport Public Library is offering take away kits for adults. This month is origami corner bookmarks! Kits can be picked up during Library Take Out hours: 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
9: The Reading Circle
Monthly meetings are now held via Zoom on the second Tuesday of the month at 12 p.m. The Newport Library Reading Circle will meet on Tuesday, June 8th at 12:00 p.m. via zoom to discuss books by Walter Tevis. 10: Library Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi is available from 8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays in the library parking lots for FREE. Please share this announcement with students and others who may not have Wi-Fi at home!
