The Newport City Council has adopted an ordinance that prohibits the use of single-use, plastic, carryout bags by Newport retailers.
The Newport City Council voted once again to enforce the ban on the use of single-use, plastic, carry-out bags by retailers in the City of Newport. In order to provide time for retailers to use their existing inventory of plastic bags, the enforcement will begin on March 31 for retail establishments larger than 10,000 square feet. Smaller retailers (those with less than 10,000 square feet) will be given until May 1 to use their existing inventory of plastic bags, and comply with Newport’s ordinance banning the use of single-use, plastic, carry-out bags.
