The City of Newport’s Elton Pier Award is named in honor of a long-time city employee and volunteer firefighter. The award is given annually to an individual exhibiting many of the qualities exhibited by Elton Pier, including: dependability; hard work; resourcefulness; compassion; motivation of others; and a commitment to public service through volunteerism and city employment.
On January 22, 2021, the 2020 Elton Pier Award was presented to Travis Reeves (Left), Junior Systems Administrator for the City of Newport IT Department.
Nominations for Travis included praise that Travis is always ready to help and is willing to drop what he is doing to solve a crisis. He is very knowledgeable about many topics, and he is not afraid to say I do not know how to fix this, let me do some research, and get back to you. Most importantly, Travis is fun to work with and usually in a positive mood. I do not think I have ever seen him angry or upset. He is very professional, works hard, always helpful, has a good attitude at all times, and responds quickly. He is extremely knowledgeable and very personable.
City Manager, Spencer Nebel, (Right) stated, “Travis is truly deserving of this award, and the city is grateful for his dedication and commitment.” Congratulations, Travis!
