Waldport Chamber of Commerce Seeks New Executive Director
The Waldport Chamber of Commerce is in an exciting new phase of development. Our new Welcome Center opened in December, offering information and referrals for visitors, newcomers, and local businesses, as well as showcasing local artists with unique creations for sale through the pop-up shop. The Chamber now has an opportunity to find a new executive director to help guide the organization into the future.
When the Board of Directors first received the resignation of executive director Laura Furgurson, there was a mild sense of anxiety. “As our first executive director, Laura has been an amazing advocate for Waldport businesses and really got us going in the right direction,” says Sue Woodruff, long-time Chamber board member and City of Waldport councilmember. “She helped us refine our vision, identified projects that promote the community, and secured grant funding to move us forward.” Furgurson is resigning from her position with the Waldport Chamber at the end of February to pursue other regional leadership and mentorship activities.
As discussions progressed, the Board realized this is an opportunity to move to the next phase of development. “Laura laid solid groundwork that puts us in a position to continue our momentum,” continued Woodruff. The next challenge is to find a new executive director with the skills to build on that foundation.
“A vibrant business community is essential for our local economy, and an active chamber of commerce can help local businesses thrive,” says Ron Remund, Waldport Chamber Board President and co-owner of Waldport/Newport KOA. “With the right leadership, we can help our community recover from the effects of the pandemic and come back even stronger than before.”
The Chamber is asking for the community to help discover their next leader. If you or someone you know might be the perfect fit for this part-time position, please contact Sue Woodruff at email@example.com. The position is open until filled, with priority consideration given to applications received by February 17, 2021. Funding for this position is made possible through a grant from Lincoln County.
