FEMA is trying to get the message out that floods follow fires.
Heavy weekend rains have triggered multiple mudslides and landslides throughout Oregon. FEMA expects this to worsen, with the damaged soil from wildfires now less able to absorb rain.
Flooding is the most costly and common natural disaster in the United State with 1/5 flood insurance claims coming from homeowners living outside of high-risk areas. Flood and mudslides are covered under the National Flood Insurance Program and FEMA is encouraging Oregon homeowners to consider purchasing it to alleviate the financial risk.
