The Washington Post is reporting that this is a critical week in the Covid-19 vaccine approval process. The Post reports that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will release its evaluation of the safety and effectiveness of the Pfizer vaccine on Thursday – and if everything goes as expected, the FDA could give a thumbs-up in a matter of days. Even if a vaccine is approved by Friday it will take “a while” to see how the vaccine performs.
Speaking with CNN’s New Day, the nation’s top infectious-diseases expert Anthony S. Fauci said that in addition to the time it will take to distribute the doses it will be “at least several weeks before we see a decrease in the mortality rate, but it will come, I guarantee you. There’s no doubt that this vaccine is going to turn this thing around.”
