Letter to the Editor,
Is the Oregon Senate Republican Leadership Fund trying to buy your vote?
According to followthemoney.org, in 2016 the Republican Leadership Fund gave Dick Anderson’s campaign for state senate $677,680.61. He lost anyway. This year’s totals aren’t in yet, but I’ll bet they are similar considering how desperate they are to hoodwink the public and how many TV ads I’ve seen. He asks if we think we’re doing better or worse than 4 years ago. The answer is worse, but not because of our state legislature. It is in direct relationship to the Republicans in Washington, D.C. You think Anderson will be working for us or them?
Melissa Cribbins, running for Oregon State Senate District 5 is the person we need in Salem working to protect all of us. She was raised and still lives here on the Oregon coast. She knows the hardworking people she will be representing and as a small business owner, she knows the challenges they face every day. The Oregon Senate Democratic Campaign Committee has donated $55,543.56 to her campaign: One 12th of what the Republicans gave Anderson in 2016 for his ads and billboards. Melissa is running on her record, not her bank account.
Anderson made his living in the financial services industry in California, Idaho, Oregon and who knows where else?
The Republicans seem to constantly ask, “How can we get as much money as possible for ourselves and convince the majority of voters that we are working for them?” Here’s an example: Trickledown economics. They try to convince us that if you give money to the rich it will trickle down to us. This has been disproven over and over and they still think we will believe it is a good idea. Or how about this one: Let’s give the rich another tax break. Tell the voters the Republicans cut taxes and all the Democrats want to do is raise them. Does money come back into the economy when the wealthy pay their taxes? No. They write laws to give themselves loopholes. Do those loopholes work for you? Trump paid $750 in taxes due to loopholes. How much did you pay?
Don’t let another seemingly nice guy quietly pick your pocket. All the while he will tell you he is working for us. Don’t be fooled. The Republicans smile, pat you on the back, tell you what you want to hear and work directly against your best interests.
Melissa Cribbins is the smart choice. Vote for health care, a healthy environment in which to raise a family, workers and small business owners like Melissa herself. Vote for long term solutions to education, jobs, and homelessness.
