Bad Crash on Highway 34, 20 miles inland

Life Flight is on the ground waiting for crews to free a man trapped inside the rolled over SUV.  Will be flown to Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis.  Archive photo.

3:25pm  Report of a bad crash on Highway 34,  20 miles east of Waldport – a rollover accident with entrapment.  An air ambulance is enroute to the crash scene, just west of East Five Rivers Road.

3:43pm  Highway 34 is completely closed.  One person is trapped under the SUV.

3:46pm  Rescue personnel are starting to rescue the trapped person inside the SUV.

3:49pm  Rescue crew on the ground has asked Newport Fire to bring a ladder truck down to the crash scene.  Response time probably well over a half-hour.

3:55pm  Life Flight is going to land on the East Five Rivers Road bridge just northeast of the crash scene.  Fire-Rescue crew on scene is trying to extricate a male still trapped inside the wreck.

4:18pm  Rescue crew is asking that personnel from the Alsea Fire Station respond to the scene with full lights and siren.

4:23pm  Life Flight has landed.  Crews are still trying to pull out the last victim from inside the SUV.  It’s been slow going.

4:39pm  Victim has been pulled from the wreck.  He is being loaded aboard Life Flight medical chopper for a quick trip to Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis.

5:16pm  All Fire-Rescue personnel are clearing the scene.  Highway 34 is now back open for normal traffic.
