Mystery fishing boat shipwreck at South Beach revealed by strong outgoing tide – Greg Henton photo

Looks like old fishing vessel – entombed in the sand for decades

Regarding the South Beach boat wreck photo: I remember that boat was a commercial crabber, and was involved in a fatal accident while attempting to cross the bar. If my memory serves correct there were 2 crew who perished. It was about 25 years ago (mid 90’s)  and salvage was not possible due to sinking in the sand and its weight (steel boat). It remained visible at low tides for about 6 or 7 years,, as it is now, then eventually was covered with sand for another couple of decades.
