DEADLINE EXTENDED UNTIL JUNE 10, 2020 FOR RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS TO FILL A VACANCY ON THE NEWPORT CITY COUNCIL
The Newport City Council is seeking applications from residents interested in filling a vacancy on the Newport City Council. The vacancy was created by the resignation of former City Councilor David Allen, who recently accepted the position of City Attorney for the City of Newport. The selected applicant will fill the remainder of former Councilor Allen’s term which will expire on January 3, 2023.
Applicants must be qualified electors and have resided within the city limits for at least one year immediately prior to appointment.
Due to furloughs, the application deadline has been extended to Wednesday, June 10, 2020, by 3:00 P.M. Applications received after that date and time will not be considered.
The City Councilors will conduct interviews of the applicants at the City Council meeting of June15, 2020. Following the interviews, an appointment to fill the vacancy will be made by the City Council.
Applications should be made by utilizing the committee application form found on the city website at www.newportoregon.gov. Click on “City Government,” located under the photo of the bridge; then click on “Committee Application,” and submit the application electronically. Anyone needing a hard copy application may request one at the City Manager’s Office, Newport City Hall, 169 SW Coast Highway, Newport.
As a reminder, the Newport City Hall will be closed on all Fridays from June 5, 2020 through August 28, 2020.
