Surf Rescue off Yaquina Head – 8 people – 5 teens and 3 adults (preliminary estimate)

Yaquina Head where up to 8 people are stranded after being washed up on to the rocks near Yaquina Head. Earlier reports inicated they were “Boogey-Boarding.”
2:35pm
Surf rescue near Yaquina Head. Three adults (corrected) and four older children (corrected) are stranded in waves off east of the Yaquina Head Lighthouse. Rescue operations are underway. Coast Guard says the victims are on some rocks.
May need a helicopter rescue.
Now rescuers are summoning a rope team. Now the victims are said to be 4 children and three (corrected) adults.
3:27pm Newport Fire Chief Rob Murphy has called for additional rope rescue personnel. This may take a while.
3:33 pm Staging area is at Agate Beach.
3:45pm – Newport Fire Chief says Coast Guard is on scene beginning a partial rescue.
3:52pm – Newport Fire Chief is calling for all available off-duty firefighters to head for Agate Beach (Lighthouse) Newport to help with the rescue.
