NEWPORT CITY HALL CLOSURES
ALL FRIDAYS FROM JUNE 5, 2020 THROUGH AUGUST 28, 2020
The Newport City Council recently made the difficult decision to furlough all non- represented employees for 12 days. To accomplish this, the Newport City Hall will be closed on Fridays beginning June 5, 2020 through August 28, 2020. The furlough decision resulted from revenue losses associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.
While the Newport City Hall is included in Phase One of the reopening plan, the facility will not be reopened until modifications are made to the building. Until the modifications are completed, City Hall will be open from 3:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M., on Tuesdays and Thursdays for residents to pay bills. Other services will continue to be by appointment only, Monday through Thursday.
The furlough means that non-represented employees will not be paid for the 12 furlough days. This will result in a cost-savings of approximately $235,000 for the city.
