THE CITY OF NEWPORT IS SEEKING:
RESIDENTS INTERESTED IN FILLING
A VACANCY ON THE NEWPORT CITY COUNCIL
The Newport City Council is seeking applications from residents interested in filling a vacancy on the Newport City Council. The vacancy was created by the resignation of former City Councilor David Allen, who recently accepted the position of City Attorney for the City of Newport. The selected applicant will fill the remainder of former Councilor Allen’s term which will expire on January 3, 2023.
Applicants must be qualified electors and have resided within the city limits for at least one year immediately prior to appointment.
The application deadline is June 5, 2020, by 3:00 P.M. Applications received after that date and time will not be considered.
City Councilors will conduct interviews with the applicants at the City Council meeting of June 15, 2020. Following the interviews, an appointment to fill the vacancy will be made by the City Council.
Applicants can fill out an application form on the city website by clicking here and submit the application electronically. Anyone needing a hardcopy application may request one at the City Manager’s Office, Newport City Hall, 169 SW Coast Highway, Newport.
