CITY OF NEWPORT REOPENING PLAN AND PROCESS
On May 14th Governor Brown authorized Lincoln County to enter Phase One of Reopen Oregon. The City of Newport is looking forward to the day that it welcomes everyone back into its facilities and programs, but the city, itself, also has a phased opening, and not all city facilities and programs will open at the same time.
On May 15, the city opened its parking lots, open parks, trails, and the dog park. This includes the Nye Beach Turnaround and other formerly closed open parks, trails, etc. in the city. Parks that will be closed until Phase Two include the Skate Park, playgrounds, and sports fields.
Some city facilities are scheduled to open in the city’s Phase One, but will not be reopened until facility modifications are made. These spaces include: City Hall, Library (currently open for take-out), Recreation Center, and the Aquatic Center. An example of the types of modifications being made at City Hall include the installation of glass at counters.
The July 4th fireworks show has been postponed until July 4, 2021.
The City Council will meet on May 18, 2020 to discuss the potential opening of the Farmer’s Market on June 6. Information regarding how the Market might open is contained in the City Council packet for May 18. That is available on-line at www.newportoregon.gov.
The city looks forward to welcoming everyone back into its facilities when the time is right. In the meantime, stay home, stay safe, and stay the course.
