Local Nonprofit Makes Memberships Free to Households Impacted by COVID-19
DevNW will provide its financial and home ownership education services free of charge to aid individuals impacted by the crisis.
Springfield, OR – Starting Tuesday, May 5th, local nonprofit community development organization, DevNW is offering community members impacted by COVID-19 access to its financial education classes and counseling free of charge.
“We know there are a lot of people struggling financially as a result of COVID-19. This is a huge step to support members of our community who want to engage in our services but may see the membership fee as a barrier”, said DevNW Director of Financial Wellbeing, Karen Saxe. Saxe added, “We could not accomplish this without the support of local sponsors including, Citizen’s Bank, Columbia Bank, KeyBank, Oregon Pacific Bank, and US Bank. Together, we are committed to supporting our community’s financial wellbeing in a time of crisis.”
Tomorrow, DevNW will release a coupon code via its social media outlets, website and through its partners. Clients can use the code when registering viawww.devnw.org to waive the membership fee through August 2020, a value of $75. Membership includes unlimited access to DevNW’s financial counseling, classes and workshops for one year.
The membership fee waiver is available to anyone impacted by COVID-19, no matter how much they earn or how much their income has been affected. DevNW believes that everyone can benefit from looking over their financial picture with an expert. Like financial coaching, the goal of financial counseling is to help improve financial status over time. Financial counseling can include a range of topics, including money management, credit, debt, and making a plan to deal with life in the middle of a financial crisis.
Examples of upcoming classes include: Financial Foundations; Homebuying Foundations; Tackling Student Debt; Youth Financial Foundations and others. All classes are offered online to accommodate public health guidelines. Classes are taught in English and Spanish by bilingual/bicultural staff. Additional services offered by DevNW that are priced separately, including home equity conversion mortgage (HECM) counseling, Student Loan Debt counseling, and IDA application fees, are not included in the fee waiver.
For over thirty years, DevNW has provided asset building services for low-moderate income households in the Willamette Valley, empowering individuals to gain financial stability and long-term security. These services are needed now more than ever.
