Vote for BETTY KAMIKAWA for Lincoln County Commissioner
The COVID-19 pandemic is changing the way campaigns are promoted and you may not know that a progressive candidate is running for County Commissioner, and I urge you to vote for her.
BETTY KAMIKAWA, currently serving as a City Councilor in Toledo, is employed as a Groundfish Ageing Specialist for the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission. For decades, she has been a strong advocate for affordable early childcare and education, climate change solutions, dealing with the county’s mental health crisis, homelessness, affordable housing, the animal shelter, sustainable fisheries, and protection of our land and water. Attending meetings where these topics are discussed is not nearly enough. Increasing awareness about problems is not enough. Advocating is not enough when there are no results. As opposed to the 16-year, 4-term, ineffectual track record of the incumbent Commissioner, BETTY KAMIKAWA is used to producing results.
Betty initiates tangible solutions and participates in making sure they succeed. She has been a Girl Scout leader for almost 20 years, a parent and foster parent, the founder of Save Our Siletz River, and is currently the president of the board for Grace Wins Haven, a day resource center for the homeless. Most homeless people are NOT mentally ill or on drugs. Most homeless are families living in cars or tents. They’re our seniors, vets, and disabled folk who cannot afford housing.
Betty opposes wasting County money on construction of a convention center at the County Fairgrounds, a project green-lighted by the current County Commissioners. The Fair and 4H should be moved to a better location and the Fairgrounds property used to serve the critical needs of local residents.
Betty is thoughtful, tough, kind, and honest.
If elected County Commissioner, BETTY KAMIKAWA will support local businesses suffering under the closures required by Emergency Orders of the COVID-19 pandemic. She will work to create public/private partnerships that attract new businesses and jobs to Lincoln County, which first requires solving the affordable housing crisis.
I believe BETTY KAMIKAWA would be a GREAT replacement to the current Commissioner who gives lip service to solutions, but produces few results.
Ballots will be arriving soon in the mail. Fill out your ballot and deposit it a Drive-Up Drop Box or mail the envelope back to the Lincoln County Courthouse (postage already paid).
