The Waldport City Council is pleased to announce the selection of Dann Cutter as its new City Manager, effective April 27.
Mr. Cutter takes the place of Kerry Kemp, who has provided the City with effective leadership for the past six years and is now retiring.
The selection was made following a nationwide search by Prothman, a Washington state-based executive recruitment service, and interviews of the candidates by the City Council.
Due to the potential of moving from the Mayor position to the City Manager, the Council was very conscientious in keeping the hiring process objective, and ensured that Mr. Cutter had no involvement, other than as a candidate for the position.
The Council was impressed by Mr. Cutter’s proven leadership qualities, his dedication and love for Waldport, his ability to locate and connect resources to tackle projects, and his ideas for the future.
Mr. Cutter is a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) graduate of Oregon State University with over 23 years of experience in technology services. His undergraduate degrees in finance, economics, and environmental science also provide an extensive background to deal with a significant range of city issues.
He began his volunteer career with the City in September of 2000, when he was appointed to the Planning Commission. After six years on the Commission, he was elected to serve on the City Council, and subsequently elected as Mayor in 2018. Prior to taking on his new position, he will be formally resigning from his Council position at the April Council meeting.
Mr. Cutter has also served as the chair of the Cascades West Economic Development District, and more recently has been a co-interim executive director of the Cascades West Council of Governments, which coordinates senior and disability services as well as Meals on Wheels. He was a gubernatorial appointee to the Rural Health Coordination Council, and is also a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Born on the Oregon coast, Mr. Cutter has been a dedicated Waldportian for over two decades. The Council looks forward to having his capable assistance in guiding the City of Waldport into the future.
