CITY OF NEWPORT UPDATE ON CITY FACILITY CLOSURES AND LIMITED ACCESS
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the City of Newport has closed various facilities, and limited access to others. The closures and limited access will remain in place until April 28, 2020. The city will reassess these closures and limited access prior to April 28, 2020, and will communicate any changes with the community.
City of Newport facility closures include: Newport Public Library; 60+ Activity Center; Newport Recreation Center; and the Aquatic Center. At this time, limited public access will continue at the Newport City Hall, and no public entry at the city’s Fire Stations is permitted.
The City Council meeting of April 6th has been canceled. The Planning Commission meeting of March 23rd has been canceled. The city is developing a plan to hold electronic meetings, which will likely be a combination of telephone and livestreaming. All city advisory committee meetings have been canceled until the end of April.
All non-essential meetings scheduled in city buildings have also been canceled until further notice.
The city will update the public regarding building and program status changes through its’ website and press releases.
