Dear Lincoln County SD Parents/Guardians, Staff and Community,
Happy Spring Everyone from Superintendent Karen Gray
Let’s not forget that this Corona Virus shall pass. We don’t know when but it will pass and then we will be back to school as usual. Our main purpose right now is to feed our kids, provide them supplemental services and learning and help them graduate.
Here is the information we have and some thoughtful suggestions:
LCSD provided feedback to the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) today on our seniors’ ability to graduate and ODE is reviewing the information this weekend from our feedback they have received. Guidance will be provided by early next week.
Take a break. Just be with your families.
* Look online for fun learning things you can do.
* Read for fun.
* Go on a hike.
* Play at the beach.
* Enjoy each other.
* Play games.
* Watch funny movies.
* Sleep in
* Play music, sing and dance
* AND…Teach your kids what we don’t usually teach in school like cooking, sewing, fixing things, how to yodel, dance, paint, make crafts, build with legos, etc.
Beginning April 1, we will make learning supports and supplemental activities available for ALL students. These initial supplemental activities provided will not be like regular school. There will be no grades or credits associated with these supports and services. Some will be available on line and some will be available in packets and folders.
As we move on under guidance from the Oregon Department of Education, learning supports and supplemental services may take a different form in relationship to high school seniors but until additional guidance is released the non-grade, non-required, non-credit provision applies.
Parents: Please don’t overwhelm yourselves. A little bit everyday goes a long way.
Staff: Do not worry about planning anything! We will do our planning together when we get back on March 31. Spend your time taking care of yourselves and taking care of your families. Supplemental Learning is not what some of you are envisioning. Please wait until we get back.
After lots of consideration and feedback, we have decided to move forward with allowing K-8 students and families to check-out a Chromebook. That will be one Chromebook per household K-8. Students 9-12 already have the ability to take them home. A required fillable form will be available on all district websites, Facebook and via Remind on Thursday, March 26. The first Chromebooks will be available beginning Wednesday April 1. You have to have the form submitted at least 24 hours in advance of pick up. Pick up locations and pick up times TBD.
Buses will continue to drop off food via bus routes and in school parking lots (the 5 we are currently dropping off to) Tuesday and Thursday of Spring Break. We will be back to Monday through Fridays March 30. Our hats are off to our Food Service and Transportation Partners who have been true champions plus all of the staff and all of our volunteers.
REMINDER OF GOOD HEALTH PRACTICES TO FOLLOW: Based on Corona Virus situation…
