PFLAG Community Planning Meeting
This month’s PFLAG meeting on Wed., Jan. 8 from 6-8 pm at St. Stephen’s Church (9th & SW Hurbert) will use results of the recent community survey and provide an opportunity for everyone to suggest activities, events, programs and services that affect the Q (formerly LGBTQ) Community. Note that PFLAG OCC has adopted the current and simpler Q as an umbrella term for those in the minority regarding gender identity and sexual orientation.
New and continuing PFLAG Board members will be introduced and talk briefly about their specific interests and projects related to the Q Community. All members of the Q Community, their families and friends, are invited to these monthly information and support group meetings. Following the program there’s time to get acquainted and visit with others who share the joys and concerns of Q families.
PFLAG is a national organization established to support gays, their families and friends through its mission of Education, Support and Advocacy. Research shows that LGBT students who receive support from their families, schools and communities are able to survive the stress and challenges far better than students who don’t have that support.
PFLAG provides factual and helpful information and personal connections for families whose children or teens believe they may be among the minority in gender identity or sexual orientation. For more information, call 541-265-7194.
