Caleb Levi Colgan, 19, was arrested by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office on Dec. 10 on charges of rape in the first degree and sodomy in the first degree.
In an information document dated Dec. 11, Colgan is accused of raping a child under 12 years old on or about Dec. 8. That document also states the two charges are based on two or more acts of transactions connected together or constituting parts of a common scheme or plan.
Colgan was ordered to appear for an arraignment scheduled for Dec. 18, at 4:30 p.m., according to an arraignment order dated Dec. 11. He is pleading not guilty and is ordered to not have any contact with the victim in the case. As of press times on Tuesday, he remained lodged in the Lincoln County Jail on $250,000 bail.
A press release issued by the Newport Police Department on Tuesday said Colgan is facing additional charges after being indicted by a Lincoln County Grand Jury. These include three counts of sex abuse in the third degree, an additional count of sodomy, two counts of strangulation, two counts of unlawful sexual penetration and luring a minor.
Police also said Colgan might have abused other children and that anyone with any other information about additional abuse should contact Detective Mitch France of the Newport Police Department.
