Back in the year 2000, the coastal town of Long Beach suddenly found itself stuck with a 40 foot, 18 ton Gray Whale carcass on the beach. Townspeople tried to disassemble the whale remains but the job proved just too difficult.
After a few years of watching the whale carcass deteriorate some folks came up with the idea of at least preserving the whale’s bones…but Mother Nature got in the way of that too. But a few townspeople put their heads together and they came up with what turned out to be a viable way to honor the whale. The story is in The Oregonian. Click here.
