Another person has fallen victim to E Coli poisoning after eating romaine lettuce grown in the Salinas, California area – about 50 miles south of San Jose.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control started getting reports last week that lettuce grown in the Salinas, California area, just east of Monterey, has infected a number of supermarket customers who started coming down with severe E Coli poisoning and suffering severe Diarrhea, stomach cramps and vomiting. E Coli can and will kill people if they don’t get medical treatment quickly.
Again the E Coli has infected a large amount of the Salinas area’s Romaine lettuce crop much of which is consequently being destroyed. The U.S. Department of Agriculture has advised everyone that unless the lettuce bag reveals exactly where that particular lettuce was grown, throw it out. Most lettuce growers have their location printed on the lettuce bags. Again, if there’s no mention of a town or region on the lettuce bag, dump it.
