As was feared by Oregon forestry officials, wildlife agencies and water quality officials, 14 rural Oregon counties, including Lincoln County, have successfully sued the state for not cutting enough timber which reduces harvesting taxes that should have gone to local county tax coffers.
The billion dollar judgement against the Oregon Department of Forestry was a blow to conservationists and environmentalists. They contend Oregon’s dramatic increase in annual cut would strip thousands upon thousands of acres of timber lands which would sour Oregon’s landscape for centuries.
