On October 21, 2019, the world lost Judy Bateman. She represented all that is good about people: generosity, helping others, bringing people together, fun-loving, giving and full of life. She was also feisty, stubborn, determined, and would not take no for an answer. No one could resist her.
Judy was born in Portland, Oregon on October 25, 1941 to Elmer and Ellen Lott. Her family moved to Waldport, Oregon in 1953. She graduated from Waldport High School in 1959. She married the love of her life, Gene Bateman, on September 26, 1964, and they began their life together in Newport. They had two children, Michael and Patti. Judy worked as a tireless volunteer throughout her life. She was a woman of deep faith and was active in the Catholic church. She was an integral part of the foreign exchange programs in Newport, especially the Newport-Mombetsu Sister City program
She was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Ellen Lott and her husband Gene Bateman.
She is survived by her children Michael (Elizabeth Bertun) Bateman from Edmonds, Washington and Patti Bateman from Portland, Oregon, siblings, Chuck (Lindie) Lott of Waldport, Oregon, and Joyce (Marc) DeLaVergne of Sand Point, Idaho, and numerous nieces, nephews, and so many family members that it’s impossible to list them all.
There will be a rosary held at Bateman Funeral Home on Saturday at 1:00 PM. A service will be held at Bateman Funeral Home on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at 2:00 pm, to be followed by a celebration of life at the Pacific Maritime Heritage Center at 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Bateman Family Foreign Exchange sponsorship account at Columbia Bank in Newport, Oregon.
She brought light and love and endless energy everywhere she went. She will be deeply missed by her community and in the hearts of all who knew her.
There’s still time to send flowers to the Recitation of the Rosary at the Bateman Funeral Home at 1:00 PM on November 9th.
