5:22pm – A man ignited a burn pile in his yard at 280 Blueback in Tidewater just after 5pm. The fire ignited some trees so now they’ve got a forest fire in-and-among homes just north of the Alsea River. Firefighters from Waldport are racing to the scene. Reports from the scene indicate that the fire is moving fast through the tree tops toward homes on the river.
5:31pm – Additional fire engines are enroute to the scene from Newport.
5:38pm – Neighbors have knocked down the fire, limiting its spread to about 200 square feet.
5:40pm – First arriving fire crew says the neighbors have done a good job of knocking down the fire. All other fire units can stage at the turn-off from Highway 34.
5:44pm – Fire crew on scene says they can handle what little is left of the fire. All other units can head back to Waldport and Newport.
