A long list of names of U.S. House of Representatives congressmen have gone on record in favor of impeaching President Trump based on recent developments. Democrat Kurt Schrader said he was not prepared yet to vote on the matter: Here’s his statement:
Rep. Kurt Schrader (Yesterday): “Is this the time to call for impeachment? Does the country need to be divided, or should it be united at this point in time? The president is who he is, he has fans and he has detractors.”
Since Rep. Schrader’s statement to the public worked its way around his district, he has apparently changed his mind on the matter in less than 24-hours. Here is a “change of heart” comment from a position paper he is circulating today among voters in his district…
Rep. Schrader (Today): “Thank you for reaching out to me about possible impeachment proceedings against President Trump. This is a very somber time in our nation’s history, and I appreciate you taking the time to voice your concerns on this serious issue.
As your member of Congress, I have decided to support an impeachment inquiry into the President of the United States. I did not come to this decision lightly and have spent significant time weighing the facts in this case. Only two Presidents in our nation’s history have ever been impeached by the House of Representatives. It is a serious charge, and one which requires thoughtful deliberation. However, the gravity of the recent revelations where the President of the United States asked the leader of a foreign government to investigate his political opponent is a threat to the foundation of our democracy. This represents a profound abuse of power and a severe violation of the public’s trust. Our founding fathers wrote the Constitution so that Congress would be a check on the executive. Our founders intended for Congress to step up in moments like these and I intend to do just that.”
