4:14pm – Report of a trapped male climber on God’s Thumb. Reports say he is stuck in place while rescuers figure out how to get him down. Sounds like a call to the Coast Guard to fly one of their helicopters to the scene, lower a Coast Guardsman down on a line and strap him on, and then drop him off on a bluff overlooking the beach.
There have been numerous references to Coast Guard and North Lincoln Fire “rescue fatigue” at having to respond to God’s Thumb every time a “novice” gets in trouble and can’t climb out. There’s even talk of barring access to specific areas of the dangerous geological feature. We’ll see what they come up with.
