Central Coast Firefighters were called to a report of a fire at an abandoned house on the hill that overlooks Alsea Bay. Access to the house was very difficult so firefighters had to manually haul hose lines uphill and around to access the burning building. The fire, of course, took advantage of the time lapse so the house was a total loss.
Again, the house was abandoned, yet transients had taken it over as a make-shift shelter. Fire Chief Gary Woodson says it was a flop house and was heavily used by the homeless. The exact cause of the fire is still being investigated. A fire crew was stationed at the house Monday through Tuesday morning to jump on any re-kindling of the fire. A state fire investigator is expected to arrive Tuesday to analyze the burn pattern and come up with a cause or at least a point of ignition. No one was injured fighting the blaze.
