Local author Scott Branchfield will read passages from his new book, Star Liner, at the Newport Public Library on Saturday, August 10 at 2:00 p.m. The story is about an actor, Jan Stot, who has finally found a job. He will be entertaining passengers on a star liner bound for Asbos. Jan has never been off planet before, so the thought of a journey to the new colony seems exciting. But a dark mystery is awaiting on the ship, and Jan will find himself at the center of it. Jan’s singing and acting abilities won’t be the only skills he has to employ on this trip.
Scott received a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Idaho State University. He is an avid reader of all of the sub-genresof speculative fiction, as well as history, other nonfiction, or anything else that strikes his fancy. Over the years he has developed a love of writing for the fun of it. As an adult he rediscovered his fondness for acting. He has been involved in many local theater productions for Red Octopus, Teatro Mundo, Porthole Players, and Theatre West. He has even occasionally written plays for them. For the past year he has written a weekly blog called “A Speculative Mind”. This covers an eclectic range of topics. He currently works as a cartographer for the county which forces him to be a part time historian because maps tell stories and are themselves based on stories. Scott lives with his wife on the Oregon Coast.
