Join the Newport 60+ Activity Center on Saturday, August 10, for this easy hike through lush, old growth at Whittaker Creek Ridge Trail. This 3.1 mile trail overlooking Siuslaw River is a lightly trafficked loop located near Walton, Oregon. It is good for all skill levels.
The Old Growth Ridge Trail was designated in 1994 as a National Recreation Trail due to the exceptional wildlife, geologic features, and old growth trees that are typical of coast range ecosystems. Chinook and Coho salmon, as well as Steelhead trout can be observed in the fall and winter months in the creek next to the campground.
We will leave the 60+ Activity Center at 8:00 a.m. and return around 4:00 p.m. Cost of this hike is $15.00. To register for this fun hike, go online: www.newportoregon.gov/sc and click on the dark blue banner “Browse the catalog and register.” There, you may view a listing of additional trips, hikes, events, classes and presentations.
