“Open Studios” Kick Off at Newport Visual Arts Center
Drop-in sessions in August allow visitors to create works from the VAC’s ocean-view setting.
The Oregon Coast Council for the Arts (OCCA) is pleased to launch “Open Studios” at the Newport Visual Arts Center, from 2-6pm on the following Saturdays: August 17 and 24.
Locals and tourists alike are welcome to stop in and paint, draw or otherwise create from the vistas of the VAC’s ocean-view classrooms. “Open Studios” participants are encouraged to bring their own supplies, though limited art-making materials will also be provided.
“’Open Studios’ is an opportunity to share with the creative community and the general public what we sometimes take for granted,” says OCCA VAC director Tom Webb. “The VAC has incredible and inspirational views of Nye Beach and Yaquina Head. Participants can create while remaining out of the elements of wind and rain.”
“Open Studios” sessions at the VAC are free to the public, though a $5 donation is suggested to cover future supplies, and reservations are not required.
The VAC is located at 777 NW Beach Drive in the historic Nye Beach neighborhood of Newport. “Open Studios” in August will be held in the VAC’s Room 302 classroom, accessible via NW Third Street or from the public staircase off the Nye Beach turnaround.
