Social Justice Poetry Slam Coming to Newport
Lincoln County Community Rights is putting on a Social Justice Poetry Slam, September 15th, from 3-5 PM, at the Performing Arts Center in Newport.
Slam poetry is a form of performance poetry that combines the elements of performance, writing, competition and audience participation. The name slam comes from how the audience has the power to interact with the poet and from the high-energy performance style of the poets.
Original poems, spoken word or rap/hip-hop entries on any social justice topic such as climate change, women’s, LGBTQ or immigrant rights, race and colonization, food sovereignty, community rights and more are welcome. Any age can participate. Entries can be solo or group up to three people.
Performers must read and abide by the rules and register at www.lincolncountycommunityrights.org/social-justice-slam before September 10th.
The Slam is a fundraiser for Lincoln County Community Rights and will also feature a Silent Auction, great music and good food. For more information, go to www.lincolncountycommunityrights.org or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
