Megan Cawley, newly appointed Board Director for Zone 1 – Otis and Lincoln City
The Lincoln County School District has a newly appointed school board member for Zone 1, Megan Cawley, who replaced interim board member Dave Price. Her term began this month and her first board session was on July 16 at the Newport High School. Her term expires on June 30, 2023.
In her application to become a school board member she said, “I grew up in Lincoln County, graduated from Taft High School and moved back to the coast after a decade away to raise my family. I spent ten years caring for children and families from all over Oregon as a nurse at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland. I continue to care for children and families in Lincoln Countyas a member of the North Lincoln County Health District Board, a volunteer on the board of Family Promise, and as a nursing instructor at Oregon Coast Community College.
“Improving the lives and opportunities for children and families has been the primary focus of my career and I would love to continue this work as a member of the Lincoln County School Board. As a nurse I care deeply for the health, safety, and quality of life of our county and as a teacher I know that equal opportunity to quality public education improves the entire community. I love this community and I love living here. I grew up here and I’m familiar with the unique strengths and challenges of our large, rural area. I want to do my part to ensure all our students have access to every available resource to help them reach their full potential and live healthy, successful lives.”
Megan’s fellow board members say they are very pleased to have her representing Zone 1. The School Board knows she has many skills that will be put to effective use as the district develops its new five-year strategic plan among other tasks that are currently underway.
