“NESS…The Best Kept Secret in North Lincoln County”
From The Ness Club of North Lincoln County
As those of us in the Baby Boomer generation approach our 80’s, questions of long-term care begin to creep into our consciousness. The options and choices facing the Boomer generation effect not only people in the age group but also those who will end up caring for aging loved ones.
It’s a fact that the Central Oregon Coast is underserved when it comes to long-term care services for elders and people with disabilities. Located in Lincoln City, North End Senior Solutions is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with the mission to ensure the safety, comfort, and well being of senior citizens and people with disabilities and to help them maintain their independence and fulfill their desire to remain living at home.
North End Senior Solutions…NESS for short…is working hard to fill the senior and disabled care gap by delivering a day service at their Lincoln City location…NESS Club, with plans to grow its service set and create a long-term care facility they will call NESS Home.
Caregiver support is a key element of the NESS care protocol; classes designed to educate and support caregivers are offered on a continuous basis and NESS is fast becoming the qualified source of information and education in the causes, symptoms and treatment of dementia.
At NESS Club people experience enhanced interaction and engagement in the form of games, music, art and cultural pursuits throughout the day. Nutritious snacks and lunches are provided each day along with individualized health and medical compliance monitoring.
“No one likes to be told what to do. You have to protect the person’s autonomy. They are in charge, “ says NESS Executive Director Jan Molnar-Fitzgerald about those who come to NESS Club. “Engage, entertain and educate each other…that’s what we’re there for.” At the heart of what Jan calls the NESS Method is the concept of providing nurturing spaces and environments, where people can fulfill their potential, no matter what their age or disability.
An added benefit of the NESS Club is that it also provides respite for family members providing around-the-clock care for loved ones staying in the home. Current hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30am to 4pm, with plans to be open five days a week in the near future.
NESS Club is located one block South of Bi-Mart, behind Lincoln City Outlets at 1350 SE Oar in Lincoln City. For further information, call 541-921-0937 and check our website, northenders.org.
